WE ARE RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR OUTREACH PROGRAM!

We have recently created new volunteer positions to help our centre’s Outreach Program.

Did you know our amazing army of volunteers have contributed a total of 7,323.12 hours this year?
This equals $109,846.80   (7323.12 x $15/hr).

 

Board Game Host – 2 positions available

These Outreach volunteers may:

  • Offer companionship and socialization to a group of seniors coming to the centre to play board games.
  • Setting up games and cleaning up afterwards.
  • Play games along side the seniors

Gentle Walking Group – 2 positions available

These volunteers may:

  • Offer companionship as a walking partner in our gentle walking group by walking with participants and chatting with them.
  • Put chairs out for participants at the beginning of the class.
  • Set up the music and closing it up afterwards.
  • Collect the $2 drop in fee at the beginning of the class and having participants sign in.
  • Being volunteer leaders of some gentle exercises (demonstrated to you).

Friendly Phone Calls – 3 positions available

These volunteers may:
  • Offer support to individuals identified for this program through the WSAC Outreach office who may be isolated for various reasons. These individuals would have received Outreach services and no longer require intense support but are in need of some consistent connection.
  • Participate in scheduled phone calls to check in on how a senior is doing and perhaps spend some time chatting with them
  • Volunteers would be paired with specific seniors to develop a relationship and ensure consistency.
  • Volunteers would be provided with some training surrounding boundaries, confidentiality and when to refer back to Outreach.
  • This position would be great for someone who is empathetic, patient and has good listening skills

Follow Up Phone Calls – 2 positions available

These Outreach volunteers may:

  • Participate in scheduled phone calls to follow up with seniors who may have received referrals from the Seniors Home Support Program or other services from the WSAC Outreach department
  • Volunteers would be provided with some training surrounding developing boundaries, confidentiality and when to refer back to Outreach.
  • Once a week for approximately 1 ½ hours for phone calls.
  • This position would be great for someone who is patient and has good listening and customer service skills

Friendly Face – 3 positions available

These Outreach volunteers may:

  • Offer companionship to new members coming into the centre by answering questions or just making them feel welcome
  • Offering to join someone who may be sitting alone in the café for coffee or lunch
  • Participate in New Member Teas as a host

Class Assistant – 2 positions available

These Outreach volunteers may:

  • Offer support to members who are taking a class but may have physical barriers that prevent them from being able to perform certain tasks – this could be a volunteer who is already registered in a class and is willing to assist a classmate or it could be a volunteer who is not registered and taking part in a class but is strictly there to assist a member
  • Attend a first-time class with a new member to make them feel more comfortable at the centre
