One of our centre’s traditional Christmas Celebration dinners is our Mavie’s Mitten Tree celebration.

Since 1998, our amazing event founder Mavie and her team of knitters have made heartfelt knitted items that are given to children at the Cross Cancer Hospital, wards at hospitals, local schools and the Family Resource Centre at CFB Edmonton.

Mavie just celebrated her 97th birthday and is continuously making knitted items for the Centre.

It is important to note that each year our centre invites one elementary school that services low-resources children to be part of our celebration. When they come to the event, the children perform one or two songs or programs for our seniors in attendance. To thank them for their performance, Mavie gives each child a pair of mittens and other Christmas presents. The children will also have the opportunity to have their photo taken with Santa. We also serve a traditional Christmas dinner as part of our celebration.

In 2019, we will be celebrating our 21st Mavie’s Mitten Tree celebration.  We hope you will join us!
